When’s the last time you had a mozzarella stick? Yeah, see, that’s a problem. They’re really so easy to make – you have no excuse now.
This recipe was made in collaboration with our friends at Sauz.
INGREDIENTS:
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups Kooshy Italiano Panko Breadcrumbs
- 12 oz string cheese cut in half
- 1 quart vegetable oil
- Sauz Marinara (for dipping)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- You’re going to need three bowls – go and get ‘em!
- In the first bowl, mix your flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder
- In the second bowl, crack your eggs and thin them out by whisking in a little bit of water.
- In the third bowl, drop in your Kooshy Italiano breadcrumbs.
- Now for the fun part – time to coat your cheese sticks! Take a piece of string cheese and dip it in each bowl. Start with the egg, then the flour, then back to the egg, and finish her off in the panko mixture. Warning: your fingers will get messy.
- Freeze! Yep, you’ve got to freeze those sticks before you drop them in the oil. Lay them on a baking sheet and freeze them for at least 45 minutes.
- Once your sticks are cold and your oil is hot (350°F is the goal), you’re ready for frying. Drop in your sticks, but only fry a few at a time and watch the oil temperature.
- Pro tip: if you see the oil temperature dropping, stop adding mozzarella sticks and let the oil heat back up. If the oil temp drops too much, you’ll have soggy sticks instead of crispy ones.
- Once they reach a perfect golden-brown, remove them from the oil and let them cool! Trust us, your mouth will thank us later.
- Get your sidecar of Sauz and serve on the side for dipping. Mangia!
